This is the first commission I have ever made, and since this was for my best friend, it had to be pretty damn good. Lulu is a really challenging character as like most Final Fantasy characters her outfit defies the laws of fashion.
We spent plenty of time hunting down the right fabrics, details and looking up reference and tutorials. The thing I enjoyed most about this cosplay was the amount of innovation I had to do and the amount of learning involved. The dress is a single pattern from Simplicity (sim1910) which I altered to make it look like a bustier attached to a denim skirt. The bodice is made of satin, with grey bias tape for piping. The back panel has metal grommets and grey designer rope for ties. The skirt and sleeves are a light weight black denim. The lace appliques were all ordered from Ali Express and hand painted by me, except for the yellow button style appliques which were purchased from the very talented Serephitic on Etsy. The earrings and necklaces were all made by me as well. The belt panel is a separate piece from the skirt, it just snaps in and has a slim belt at the top for extra support. The panel only contains 5 actual belts. The others are all strips on Vinyl patterned like Leather. The sides are supported by a small plastic PVC tubing with floral wire through the centre creating a boning effect. We purchased the wig online and styled it. All of the hair pieces were found at Anime Evolution and The Richmond Night Market. The final costume will be debuted at Fan Expo Vancouver on November 12.
