Princess Zelda - Twilight Priness
Why I chose to make this costume:
As I have mentioned I am a HUGE Zelda fan. My first go to is to dress as Link, but this time I thought lets go out of your comfort zone and create Zelda, but not just any Zelda, Puppet Zelda from Twilight Princess. This way I could dress as either of her personas and use the costume more than once. And let's face it, possessed Zelda is freaking awesome!
How I made this costume:
I chose the Simplicity 1910 pattern for the dress, as it had the right type of skirt for Zelda's dress. The vest was a pattern I designed myself (first time making a pattern!) The armor was made out of craft foam with gold spray paint. I used D rings and leather straps to attach them to my arms. The jewels are all glass beads hand painted with blue nail polish on the back side. The tabbard is made of broadcloth which I hand painted with acrylic paint. All the designs were hand drawn onto the fabric. The Wig was purchased from Mythril Wigs and I ordered the ears off of Etsy from CosplayFX, and I bought the earrings from Rhyara. The gloves were bought at my local costume supply store, and all appliques were purchased from Serephitic on Etsy. I hand sewed all the ribbon and appliques onto the base of the dress and the gloves. For puppet Zelda I had the body paint done by a friend. Took about 1 1/2 hours to get all the geometric shapes right.
Thoughts on this costume:
This was the most difficult costume that I had taken on at the time, so I was pretty proud of myself. This was also the first sewing pattern I had ever used, pretty challenging for a newbie. Had to go get some instructions from a pro for that. I'm also really proud of this costume since it was the first cosplay I got to show my inspiration, Yaya Han, who thought it was pretty awesome :)
If I were to make this one again I would definitely use steam a seam or an iron on bond for the appliques rather than hand stitching them, I would also adjust the armor so that It would stay put and not slide down my arms and I would try my hand at Worbla to make them stronger. Lastly I would adjust the vest so the armholes weren't so large.
