Cloud Strife - Final Fantasy VII
Why I chose to make this costume:
This was a half commission as it were. It was my friend's first time cosplaying, and he had no sewing skills at all. We were doing a group cosplay and he chose to go as Cloud. I took him out shopping and we showed him the ways of first time cosplay on a budget.
How I made this costume:
We purchased the shirt, shoes and pants all from Value Village. I altered the shirt by cutting off the sleeves and edge finishing them so they wouldn't unravel. I bought heavy black denim from the clearance section at Fabricland for the sleeve and the waist wrap. We bought multiple belts from Value Village to attach the waist piece and create the shoulder strap. The gloves were from a local costume shop. We created the shoulder armor using craft foam and black paint. The wolf insignia was modelled by a friend of ours and attached using glue. We attached smaller zippers to the top of the boots to match the character, and buckles onto the pants. The sword took us the longest. We enlisted other friends to design blueprints and cut out all the pieces from blue insulation foam. It was then painted with spray paint and acrylic paint. The wig was purchased online and we found the sunglasses at a dollar store.
Thoughts on this costume:
The costume turned out really well, and my friend was super happy about it. It spurred an interest in continuing to cosplay which is good enough for me :) Next time we would find foam specific spray paint for the sword to prevent melting.
