Aerith Gainsborough - Final Fantasy VII
Why I chose to make this costume:
This was going to be my first group cosplay ever! My friend decided that we should go as Final Fantasy characters since we are both huge fans of the series and his favourite was FFVII. I agreed. Given the time we had before the up coming convention, Aerith would be perfect because she wasn't overly complicated.
How I made this costume:
I chose McCalls 6740 for the dress and Simplicity 1780 for the jacket, which I modified to add pockets and the belts on the sleeves. I bought pink broadcloth for the dress, burgundy denim for the jacket and matching bias tape from Fabricland. I used some of the broadcloth to also sew her hair bow. I bought the bracelets from a local dollar store, as well as all the flowers. I used a basket I already had and foam blocks inside the basket to attach all the flowers. The boots were purchased from Value Village. The wig was purchased from Mythril Wigs and styled using lots of hairspray and Got2B hair glue.
Thoughts on this costume:
This is the most comfortable cosplay I have made to date, and it will require very little maintenance in the future. I will need to get a new wig and re-style it for future uses. I learned the hard way to keep the heat gun away from the hair (or it melts). I would also make my own bracelets out of foam and worbla so that they fit my wrists easily.
